Linsly-300x90-Ad-2

GAMES TO WATCH:

Class A

(1-0) Magnolia at (1-0) Wirt County

When: Friday, 7:00 p.m.

Last Week: Magnolia defeated a quality Ravenswood team last Friday by the final score of 43-27. Wirt County also shared the same success last week defeating Calhoun County without an issue, 54-8.

Why it’s important: For Wirt County, it would be a quality win to start the season (2-0) over an improving Magnolia team, the Tigers are seeking another playoff berth this season. The Blue Eagles however are turning the page from the past and are looking forward into the future as they seek their first playoff return since 2018.

Whom to watch for Magnolia: Both Marcus Barnes and Kaden Johnson pose a threat in the backfield, last week Barnes rushed for 153 yards of total offense with two scores. The entire Magnolia offensive line poses matchup issues as well.

Whom to watch for Wirt County: Senior WR/DB Kolton Parsons will lead the way for the Tigers, Parsons was the key for the Tigers to qualify for the 2020 Class A postseason.

CLASS AA

(1-0) Fairmont Senior at (1-0) Linsly

When: Saturday, 1:30p.m.

Last Week: Fairmont Senior rolled their way to victory over Lewis County, 47-22. Meanwhile, Linsly pocketed a hard-fought victory over Martins Ferry, 27-14.

Why it’s important: A spot in the leaderboard in the OVAC’s is on the line as the Cadets face one of their hardest tasks yet in the Class AA defending state champions in Fairmont Senior. The Polar Bears, however, could earn a key victory for bonus point opportunity for the postseason ratings.

Whom to watch for Linsly: Alex Taylor and Luca DiLorenzo were both key factors in the Cadets’ win last week over Martins Ferry.

Whom to watch for Fairmont Senior: Quarterback Dom Stingo went 4 for 6 of passing collecting 126 yards and two scores in last week’s season opener against Lewis County.

CLASS AAA

(0-1) Weir at (0-1) John Marshall

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Last Week: Weir fell to Hancock County rival Oak Glen 35-20. Meanwhile, John Marshall is coming off of a 55-0 loss to University High School.

Why it’s important: If Weir picks up a quality win they will boost their chances at gaining some key regular-season points for playoff potential. For John Marshall, the Monarchs are seeking to gain a quality win over Weir to boost momentum going into week three. Both teams are also in the hunt for their first win of the 2021 High School Football Season.

Whom to watch for John Marshall: Quarterback Jacob Cottfield led the way for the Monarchs for eight carries for 46 total yards.

Whom to watch for Weir: Sophomore Quarterback Malachi Stromile went 8 for 26 as he threw for 166 yards in last week’s loss to the Golden Bears.
