Monday, Aug. 3 is Frontline Worker Appreciation Day in the city of Wheeling.
During the July 21 council meeting, Mayor Glenn Elliott proclaimed the day as such and since then, many Ohio Valley businesses have joined the city to honor the dedication of those who continued doing their jobs on the frontlines helping to ensure the health, well-being and safety of Wheeling’s citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The following activities will honor the unsung heroes who have kept things going during these challenging times.
- Cathedral of St. Joseph and other Wheeling churches will be tolling their bells at 1 p.m.
- Kirke’s Homemade Ice Cream will be serving sundaes to Wheeling Hospital employees from 1-4 p.m.
- Ziegenfelder’s will be passing out Twin Pops to frontline workers within various organizations throughout the day.
- The Kaley Building, Laconia Building and Main Street Bank in downtown Wheeling will be lit up from 9-10 p.m.
- Residents are encouraged to turn porch lights on from 9-10 p.m.
