West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice appointed Michael J. Baker and Dr. Jamie Evick to serve on the West Liberty University Board of Governors recently.
The board welcomed the new members to its September meeting where they were sworn in.
Baker is the owner of Cast & Baker Corporation and he succeeds Dr. William Mercer for a term ending June 30, 2023.
A native of Wheeling, Baker graduated from West Liberty in 1979, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a specialty of Business Management.
He previously worked for the former Ram Construction Company of Pittsburgh, Pa., as a project manager until February 1985. In June 1985, along with a partner, he founded Cast and Baker Corporation, a site development, excavating, and general contracting company located in Pittsburgh.
Baker is actively involved in the management of several other companies including acting as president of Justus, Inc., a real estate development group; President of Wilson Blacktop Corporation, a local paving company. He has served on the board of directors for Main Street Bank since 2000.
He is a member of St. Michael Parish, Wheeling. Baker and his wife, Susan, have four children and four grandchildren.
Dr. Jamie Evick is a physician at WVU Medicine Reynold’s Hospital, Glen Dale, W.Va. and succeeds Lucinda Fluharty for a term ending June 30, 2024.
A specialist in Internal Medicine, Evick also is a hospitalist and is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.
Evick completed her internship at Ohio Valley Medical Center in 2006 and her Internal Medicine Residency, also at the Ohio Valley Medical Center in 2008.
She is a graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated from West Liberty State College with a BSN in Nursing in 2001.
She serves as vice president of Physician Services for WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital and works as a medical director for Stonerise Hospice. She also serves as medical director for a local nursing home.
Evick is married to Anthony Evick, and they have four children, Avery (12), Lexi (8), Anthony (3), and James (1).
In other action, the governor reappointed alumnus and retired businessman Jack C. Adams of McMurray, Pa. to the board for a term ending June 30, 2024.
These members join a board led by Chairman Rich Lucas of Wheeling. Additional members include: Joseph Carey, New York; Staff Representative Kelly Baker, Wheeling; Richard H. Carter, Wheeling; Student Government Association President Isabella Yakicic; and Kristina Williams, Des Moines, Iowa.
