Madison Receives Donation from Partner in Ed

-

Madison Elementary School Principal Andrea Trio is grateful for her school’s partnership with Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack.

On Friday, Trio accepted donations of more than $8,000 from Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack President and General Manager Kim Florence. Madison was one of more than 15 recipients of the business’s annual charity efforts, and this week Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack donated more than $75,000 to local charities.

Each year, collection boxes are placed around the hotel/casino property to give guests the opportunity to drop change left on their slot voucher or racing ticket into the box, and each month the collected donations go to a different charity. The efforts are bolstered by employee donations collected on casual Fridays. Due to the impact of COVID-19, collections from 2019 were distributed along with the contributions from 2020.

Trio thanked Florence for the contribution from Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack. She said she was surprised by the amount of the donations.

“It’s such a generous contribution,” Trio said. “Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack is wonderful Partner in Education. A decision hasn’t been made on how this funding will be used, but it will definitely be a great benefit to the students of Madison Elementary School. Madison students, staff members and community are grateful for this contribution and such generosity.”
