Downtown Water Main Replacement Project Slated to Begin March 8

-

The City of Wheeling’s downtown water main replacement project will begin on Monday, March 8 at the intersection of Main and 16th streets.

The project involves the replacement of water distribution mains, as well as the replacement of water services from the mainline to each building in the project area.  The project is expected to proceed up 16th Street from Main to Eoff, Market Street from 16th to 10th, and finally Main Street from 9th to 16th. In most cases, traffic will be managed around the work, but there are a few instances throughout the project in which traffic will be detoured up to the next block. Any detours will be marked accordingly. Work is expected to take approximately one year.

This water line project will replace a water main that was originally installed in 1886. City leaders plan to finish all underground utility work before construction of the Streetscape project’s above-ground improvements get underway with new streets, sidewalks, signalization and other features along downtown Wheeling’s main traffic arteries.
