The roaster inside Bee-ology
Did someone say fresh-roasted coffee? If so, if can be found at Bee-ology.

Early risers in Barnesville rejoice. Coffee and donuts are available once again for your convenient consumption.

The best part, aside from the quality ingredients roasted on sight and smiling faces? There’s a drive-thru, so you don’t even need to exit your vehicle.

Bee-ology Coffee & Bakery celebrated its grand opening April 9 and has been seeing a consistent level of business since. It’s located at 629 E. Main St. in Barnesville. For residents and customers who frequented the former Miller’s Donut Shop, it’s the same location.

Owned and operated by Amy Kemp and her husband, Doug, Bee-ology offers premium roasted coffee and espresso, along with an increasing variety of baked goods to pair with your morning or early afternoon beverage.

What sets Bee-ology apart is that the baker roasts its own coffee and espresso beans in-house using its Diedrich specialty roaster.

Kemp admitted a relative of the family has worked the coffee business for 30-plus years. He explained not only what eventually became the Bee-ology house blend, but also passed along a few tips on running the shop.

“We call it our Colony Blend,” Kemp said of the house blend. They have a lot of experience in the business and two different types of coffee.

“He also told us that if we were going to get into the business, we should definitely roast our own beans on-site.”

This isn’t Kemp’s first foray into the Barnesville business world. The Kemps are also owners of Flag Floors.

But Why Bee-ology?

No one pours their heart, soul, and finances into a business and then just selects a company name on a whim. So, what’s the story behind Bee-ology?

The Kemps also dabble in beekeeping and are expanding their operations to allow for the greater production of honey. The eventual plan is to offer that honey, not only in the shop, but in the drinks and baked goods available inside.

“We keep adding more and more hives, and hopefully we’ll be able to add it as a natural sweetener here and also bottle and sell it,” Kemp said.

Bee-ology is currently open Thursday through Saturday, from 6:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. The hours, like the menu, may fluctuate depending upon demand. Opening Wednesdays is also a possibility.

Currently, the menu for coffee consists of the Colony Blend, decaf, as well as flavored coffees like Highlander Grogg and Icing on the Cake. Any flavor can be purchased in 12 oz. bags of beans.

Espresso comes in both Latte and Mocha, with honey and caramel flavors for the latte and chocolate fudge or white for the mocha. Both iced and hot tea are available, with chai tea soon to be offered.

Donuts can be purchased individually or by the half or full dozen. There are multiple options available for the cake donuts. Bee-ology also debuted a bacon, egg and cheese souffle that has gone over well.

Starting in May, Bee-ology will incorporate themes into its offerings. Next month will be a strawberry theme. And yes, look for the pumpkin theme when the town’s annual pumpkin festival rolls around.
