Ribs and fries, and these ribs were really good

I’ve lived just outside of St. Clairsville going on four years and, until recently, had never made the trek westward toward Morristown to check out the Pike 40 Restaurant.

Many have suggested to me which, in hindsight, is perfectly understandable. I’ve certainly been singing its praises since.

Recently my daughter and I were in the mood for something different, and had a few hours before needing to head to Cambridge, so I figured we’d swing by and (finally) check it out.

It was late afternoon on a Saturday, but upon entering, it had a nice mellow vibe. One portion of the dining room was being cleared out so a band could come in and play in a little while.

Pike 40’s website touts its menu as featuring some of the favorite Americana flavors and comfort foods. So we set off to sample.

My daughter, being her predictable self, zeroed in on the Adult Mac & Cheese. This is no easy mac, that’s for certain. The creamy cheese blend is paired with double-smoked bacon, grated parmesan, and toasted crumble.

Naturally, I had to sample—when she wasn’t looking—and the subtle hint of smoky adds to the dish without overpowering it. Plus, there’s bacon. Can’t go wrong there. She enjoyed it.\

I ordered half a rack of ribs and fries, which also came with a salad. It’s usually not a fan of wasting potential calories on vegetables, but the salad was a nice change from my usual. The glass plate was a nice touch for aesthetic purposes. Being my heavy-handed, clumsy self, however, I accidently slammed the plate off the table whilst eating a few times.

As the two of us are want to do, we ordered an appetizer, in this case, the Big Pretzel. You’re not going to slide the possibility of a giant soft pretzel paired with beer cheese past two Americans of partial German decent. It was worth the extra cost. Quite delicious.

Speaking of beer, I ordered one of the house brews on tap and was quite pleased. I’m far more particular about my beers and alcohol than my feed, but I felt the need to point out to our server that I was driving, and that was the ONLY reason I was having just one beer. It was that good.

The ribs, while not the best I’ve had, were incredibly tasty and I’d certainly order them again. In fairness, I love BBQ and I’ve eaten A LOT of ribs at a lot of different places. These? Definite Top 10.

The adult mac n cheese … delish.

Service With a Smile

We had zero qualms about our wait staff, from our quick greeting upon entering and seating, to our eventual server.

She was friendly, and more than patient while us first timers took more than a minute to peruse the menu. She was also frequent in returning to our table to make sure if we needed anything which, given the preparation for the upcoming live music, already had her dashing back and forth with various duties.

I regret not being able to stay longer to catch the band. Pike 40 has a decent-sized indoor facility, but it’s not huge. The show appeared like it would have an intimate feel as everyone had an up-close seat.

Next time we go, we’ll have to check out the patio for some outdoor dining.

Wagyu beef burger, a new item

New Menu Items

Pike 40 recently issued a double-menu release earlier this week, both a summer menu and a revamp to its main menu. According to its Facebook page, that menu now includes new wraps, bowls, and entrees, including Wagyu Beef Burgers.

Dutton Cattle Company supplies the Akaushi Wagyu Beef for the burgers which, if you’ve never had Wagyu beef, it’s certainly worth the trip.

Pike 40 is located at the corner of U.S. 40 and Ohio 149 North in Morristown, just north of the exit off-ramp and just past Union Local High School. You can view its menu here.

It’s certainly worth the trip. I know we will be back. So, what are you waiting for? Dig in.
