Saturday afternoon’s lunch required a few necessities this weekend. First, being that today is the 4th of July, it needed to be open.
I have a number of work commitments today and, sadly, not enough time to sit around a grill smoking choice meats whilst enjoying a frosty adult beverage.
My selection also needed to be relatively quick. Trying to cram in a number of events, I didn’t have an hour to kill to sit and enjoy a more fine-dining style experience.
But I also didn’t want fast food, nor did I wish to spend an arm and a leg for my meal.
That narrowed my choices down pretty quick, so I headed west on Interstate 40 in St. Clairsville to Plaza West, where tucked into the far corner of the plaza is a Belmont County favorite.
Wen Wu Buffet was open, as it is for most major holidays. I remember ordering takeout last winter whilst working a Christmas Day evening shift.
Wen Wu’s Chinese-style buffet always hits the spot. Whether for lunch or dinner, the meal is reasonably priced.
It’s also available as a takeout option, where you pay by the pound.
First I must preface by saying that, while my daughter is an extremely picky eater, I’m not far off. So there are a number of different items on the buffet at Wen Wu that I’ve never tried, nor will try.
Sushi? Not a fan. Not a fan of any type of seafood if I’m being honest. I tend to stick with what I know and love when hitting up Wen Wu—rice, noodles, and every type of chicken imaginable.
And Wen Wu does have a large number of different types of chicken.
Affordable, Tasty Options
As said, my two trips to the buffet were highlighted by the different types of chicken. General Tsos is always a mainstay and Wen Wu’s take on this popular chicken has just the right amount of tangy flavoring.
The peanut butter chicken is also a favorite of mine and it pairs nicely atop the rice. Sometimes I get white, sometimes I get fried. Either style works as a solid culinary complement.
There’s sweet and sour chicken, honey chicken, black pepper chicken and occasionally steak. Two helpings of those and I was good to go. Naturally, you grab a fortune cookie on the way out the door.
But Wen Wu is more than just a buffet. Scan its online menu and you will find a host of the more traditional Chinese cuisine dishes available for takeout and delivery via Door Dash.
And considering I also deliver for Door Dash, I know how much St. Clairsville and surrounding areas loves its Wen Wu takeout. It’s not uncommon for me to make 3-4 trips per shift swinging through Plaza West to pick up a Wen Wu order.
I’ve been to buffets locally with a larger selection of food, but for my money, you can’t beat Wen Wu. The food is quality, as is the price. You should stop by.
