Wheeling Recreation and Generation Wheeling are inviting you to experience your own little piece of Zen downtown this week.

That’s because Yoga with Generation Wheeling returns to downtown on Thursday.

Instructor Betsy Sweeny also returns and will be leading the class that runs from 5:30-6:30 p.m. There’s no cost to join in, and participants are asked to sign up via the Wheeling Rec website.

The class takes place at Wheeling’s Heritage Port with the river serving as a serene backdrop. New to yoga? No need to worry. This class will be beneficial to all levels as it is beginner friendly yet still beneficial for seasoned yogis.

While the class is free, those attending are asked to bring their own yoga mat, blocks, and any other materials you deem essential for your session.

Thursday’s weather forecast is showing a potentially humid day with the possibility of thunderstorms. So, keep an eye on the Wheeling Rec Facebook page for more updates and any potential weather cancellations.

The next regularly scheduled yoga class will be held on Thursday, Aug. 5, also from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The site has yet to be determined. Market Plaza has been utilized in the past.

Participants need to be ages 18 and over to sign up.

Youth Pickleball Prep

Later in the week, the Rec Department is hosting a Pickelball Clinic for both tweens and teens ages 10-17.

The cost is $10 apiece for both Wheeling residents and non-residents alike, and the clinic takes place on Friday at the Patterson Complex in Elm Grove’s pickleball courts.

The clinic runs for two hours from 5-7 p.m.

A combination of ping pong and tennis, pickleball is played on a surface the size of a volleyball court.

The serve is similar to that in tennis and you play with a ping-pong style paddle along with a whiffleball.

It’s one of the fastest growing sports in America, and any one of any age can play. The Patterson facility features four dedicated pickleball courts.

When not in use for the clinic, the courts can be reserved or utilized during open play times. For more information, contact Pat at (304) 281-3486.
