Heading back from covering a volleyball match the other night, we were in the mood for pizza. In this house, pizza night usually means one of three places. The place we choose generally is dependent upon a couple factors, namely time and expendable income.

When I’m in a hurry, or short on cash days before payday, Little Caesar’s does the trick. Let’s be honest, the main draw for “Pizza Pizza” is price and convenience.

As an aside, sometimes when I go in, and there’s nothing hot and ready, I think to myself ‘the whole point of coming here is because the food is ready NOW. No one is coming here for the taste.’ But seeing as I don’t like being unnecessarily rude, I keep those thoughts to myself.

Another option, especially if we have time to sit down and are inside the mall is to swing by Fabio’s. Those large slices of goodness are delectable.

But on this night, we weren’t in a hurry. So when we left Byesville, I placed an online order from Wally’s Pizza and Subs in St. Clairsville.  I could have gone to the Cambridge location as it was right up the road. But I wanted to wait until nearly home before picking up the order.

I love the convenience of ordering online with Wally’s. You can either opt for pick-up, delivery, or drive-thru pick-up. The St. Clairsville location is delivered using Door Dash. Even when home, I generally opt to pick up the order. I don’t live far, and it saves on delivery fees that don’t go toward Wally’s, but the delivery app.

You can customize your order in a number of ways, from different types of sauce, light, extra, or no sauce at all, and that’s in addition to a bevy of toppings.

Wally’s also has subs, appetizers, salads, and wings in addition to its different styes of pizza. Let me just say, I’ve gotten the wings on a number of different occasions. They are definitely in my top five.

But on this night, we ordered a cauliflower pizza with bacon, pepperoni, and light on the sauce. It’s a fine low-carb option. I also ordered the four-piece special for my daughter: four slices of the famous square pizza, coupled with a can of soda.

The Food

The cauliflower pizza has become a go-to for us. The crust is incredibly thin, and you don’t even notice the cauliflower taste. It has a great consistency. Plus, if you’re staying low carb like me, or have an issue with gluten, your body will thank you.

We went light on the sauce, per usual, but the sauce is actually quite tasty. It’s just a habit with the cauliflower. The bacon is shredded into smaller pieces and amply spread throughout the pie.

It’s very easy to tear through my share (four slices) in a matter of minutes because it does taste that good.

The square pizza, however, is Wally’s signature stye and for good reason. Its similar to the square pizzas you can find throughout the valley. But the sauce contains no sugar.

The main difference is the pizza is partially baked, then taken out of the oven to have the toppings applied and then placed back in to be finished. It provides a unique taste we’ve come to enjoy.

Two thumbs up from this family. Definitely give a shot.
