Appalachian Power Storm Restoration Update

-

Tuesday, February 8, 2022:

Situation

Power is back on for nearly 90% of the 13,000 customers affected by last week’s damaging ice storm in the Wheeling area. More than 400 workers are committed to the restoration effort, and we expect to get service back on to the majority of the remaining 1,650 customers by 10 pm.

Outages

There are about 120 locations where repairs must still be made. As the restoration effort continues, field crews are making repairs to outages affecting smaller numbers of customers. More than 75% of the repairs left to be made serve fewer than 10 customers.

Storm Response Efforts

Damage from this weather event was significant, and employees and contractors have made significant progress with repairs over the last couple of days. More than 400 workers are committed to seeing the service restoration effort to completion.

Restoration Estimates

The majority of customers without power will have service restored by late tonight. The remaining customers should have service restored tomorrow.

Safety Messages

Ice storms can cause damage that downs power lines. Customers should treat all downed lines as live power lines and stay away from them.

Keep children and pets away from fallen lines and anything the lines may touch.

Never remove debris that’s within 10 feet of a power line.

Employees are observing COVID-19 safety precautions as they go about restoring service in order to protect themselves, our customers and the public. Please protect yourself and our employees and contractors by not approaching them as they work to restore power. Maintaining social distancing is the best way you can help our crews.
