An OPEN LETTER to … The Person Who Can Keep Tractor-Trailers Off Interstate 70 Forever …

To Whom It May Concern:

The term “leisurely” comes to our minds when remembering our recent drives along Interstate 70 from St. Clairsville to downtown Wheeling. Dare we say, “Peaceful”?

Granted, the skies were blue, and the sun was shining during our trips, but the cruise wasn’t smooth because of the weather but instead because of the absence of those smothering semi-tractor-trailers.

So, our question is this: Can it stay that way? Please. Just don’t move the signs at the splits near the Ohio Valley Mall and Elm Grove. We know those truckers are hauling our future stuff, and we appreciate them for what they do for the economy, but the rigs they drive are enormous, and they can be deadly.

A highway with trucks.
There have been many accidents at the intersection of Interstate 70 and I-470 in Elm Grove.

So, why not separate the thru-way motorists and truckers permanently so the semis never travel through Wheeling Tunnel but still have access to all-points Wheeling from the exit ramp on I-470? Plus, I-70 slithers its way through the city with a few tight turns and curves until merging with I-470, and such a separation would allow that freeway fuse to be safer than it is now.

Sincerely,

Driving Like Sunday on a Monday
