West Liberty University continues to prioritize the mental health and well-being of its students by offering enhanced support services for the upcoming academic year. WLU is committed to fostering an environment where students can thrive academically and personally through innovative mental health resources.

As part of this commitment, WLU is excited to announce the opening of its new Zen Den, located on the second floor of the Student Union. This tranquil space is designed to provide students with a peaceful sanctuary amid the demands of academic life. The Zen Den offers a calming environment featuring comfortable seating, soft lighting, soothing sounds, and self-help resources to encourage relaxation and mindfulness.

The creation of the Zen Den was made possible through a $7,000 Youth Empowerment grant. This project was led by student Courtney Ellifritz, in collaboration with Lisa Witzberger, Director of Counseling Services. The Zen Den stands as a testament to WLU’s dedication to supporting student well-being in a holistic manner.

In addition to the Zen Den, WLU is proud to continue its partnership with BetterMynd, an online mental health platform that provides students with access to licensed mental health counselors. Through BetterMynd, students can schedule confidential virtual counseling sessions that fit their schedules, ensuring that mental health care is both accessible and convenient. This partnership allows WLU to offer a wide range of support services that meet the diverse needs of its student body.

WLU’s collaboration with BetterMynd reflects the university’s proactive approach to mental health, empowering students to seek help whenever they need it and from wherever they feel most comfortable.

“We are committed to creating a supportive environment where students feel empowered to take care of their mental health,” said Lisa Witzberger, Director of Counseling Services at West Liberty University. “With the launch of the Zen Den and our continued partnership with BetterMynd, we are providing students with multiple avenues for mental health support, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed both academically and personally.”
