The long-running local anthology series returns with its annual Halloween show.

Cloak & Dagger On the Air returns to the Top of West Virginia Convention & Visitors Bureau this Saturday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. with four More Tales from the Inner Sanctum.

Admission is free, although donations are always appreciated.

Doors open at 3:30 p.m., with R.J. Gaudio, Troubadour, performing an opening set of classic pop, folk, and rock favorites. Light refreshments will be available.

Cloak & Dagger On the Air: More Tales from the Inner Sanctum will also be livestreamed via The Ohio Valley Cloak & Dagger Facebook page.

“Our annual Halloween show is one of my favorite episodes each season,” Pete Fernbaugh, artistic director and head writer for Cloak & Dagger On the Air, said. “This month, we return to the Inner Sanctum with four tales that survey the landscape of humanity’s inner darkness and provide a few chills and thrills along the way.”

These stories are: “The Meek Die Slowly,” in which an elderly gardener becomes alarmed when his dead wife’s wedding ring is found hanging from a newly grown dogwood tree; “Skeleton Bay,” in which a popular mystery author writes her best novel yet after becoming entangled in an elaborate plot that involves murder, betrayal, and kidnapping; “The Listener,” in which a young man discovers that his aunt has spent years lying to him about his uncle’s disappearance; and “The Devil’s Workshop,” in which a man who specializes in creating realistic wax figures receives an unusual request from a mysterious gentleman who claims to have no face.

“Our stories this month were originally performed on the long-running horror anthology series, Inner Sanctum Mysteries,” Fernbaugh said. “Back in the 40s and 50s, Inner Sanctum was a popular franchise of movies, comic books, novels, radio shows, and finally, a TV series. The stories are designed to hold the listener’s attention through plot twist after heightened plot twist, each twist more absurd than the last but nonetheless engaging and intriguing. Much like Svengoolie, the unnamed host tells corny, pun-filled jokes and makes cheeky observations about the characters to keep the proceedings light and fun.”

Cloak & Dagger On the Air: More Tales from the Inner Sanctum stars The Wayward Saints: Rob DeSantis, Bethany Fernbaugh, Pete Fernbaugh, Noah Hilton, Nancy Longo, Karissa Martin, Malachi McClendon, John E. Reilly, and Dave Zanieski, with sound effects by The Holy Foley Molies.

Top of WV CVB is located at 243 Three Springs Drive, Suite 17, in Weirton, W.Va., behind Crazy Mexican, between By the Barrel and Weirton Pet Spa, and across the parking lot from Bistro 303 Prime Cuisine.

“We encourage folks to set aside some extra time to check out the local businesses around us,” Fernbaugh said. “Three Springs Drive is filled with many dining and shopping opportunities. We hope our show can bring some traffic their way.”
