An OPEN LETTER to … Pirates Owner Bob Nutting – about that survey …

The last time the Pirates were World Series champions, Willie Stargell was the captain of the Battlin' Buccos.

Mr. Nutting:

We’re writing to discuss the recent 10-question survey your major-league organization distributed to a select number of fans so you could gain a grip on the morale of the fan base. Since Wednesday when the surveys were received, thousands more chose to participate across the social media spectrum.

You’ve asked if we think you care, and if you’re committed, if we believe you’re people have the team heading in the right direction, and whether or not we are satisfied as fans. But, before we answer those inquiries, please allow us to ask you some questions.

Are you serious? You don’t already know? You see the empty seats, right? Hear the boos? And the chants … “SELL! THE! TEAM!!”

You dismantled a winning team and haven’t won since, and we expected to see a big deal or two this offseason to add to the Reynolds-Hayes-Cruz-McCutchen core … but all it’s been is more dumpster diving. Adam Frazier returning to Pittsburgh? For him, that must feel like he’s gotta move back in with his parents.

So, no, Mr. Nutting, we are not satisfied fans. We want to say yes, we really do. We want to win really, really, really, really bad. We want to celebrate you. Us. Them. We want to raise our arms and roar like kings. And we want to feel that joy again.

Sincerely,

We Have the Money
