WPD, Harmony House Partner for Stroller Walk for Child Abuse Prevention

-

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Police Department’s Victim Advocacy Program is teaming up with Harmony House to host a “stroller walk” on Sunday, April 27, to raise awareness for Child Abuse Prevention Month.

This free, family-friendly event will take place from 1 to 3 p.m., with the walk starting at 2 p.m. at Wheeling Park’s Good Lake, located at 1801 National Road in Wheeling.

The Stroller Walk aims to honor Child Abuse Prevention Month by encouraging participants to wear blue and decorate their strollers in a show of solidarity. Participants will take part in a scenic walk around Good Lake while helping to promote the importance of child safety and awareness of child abuse.

Should anyone want to walk for exercise and support the event without a stroller, they are also welcome to participate.

In addition to the walk, the event will feature a variety of activities, including a chance to win a gift basket for the best-decorated stroller, children’s games, snacks, and an opportunity to learn about available services for children and recognize the signs of child abuse. Local agencies will be on hand to provide valuable information on resources for families and children in need.

“We invite the community to come together for a relaxed and meaningful day to help raise awareness about child abuse prevention,” said Samantha Baker of the Wheeling Police Department.

Katie Banal from Harmony House is also excited about the event. ” We encourage people to show up and participate in the walk to support the children in our community and to remind people that children deserve to live happy, healthy lives free of abuse.”
