BRIDGEPORT – The young learners at Bridgeport Elementary celebrated their progress as they prepared to move to the next stage of their education. Teachers, parents and families joined in an awards ceremony May 12 to cheer on the kiddos.
Bridgeport Elementary Principal Kamaron Sabinski welcomed the families in the district cafetorium and whose support helped their children to achieve.
“They truly are. They’re not only successful with their academics, this entire group is successful with being kind, safe and responsible at a variety of levels. They have so many incredible role models in our school to ensure that they are helping each other.”
She said it is a joy to visit their classrooms daily and observe.
“We have students who are illustrators and writers and have made books. We have creators of game boards regarding mathematics. We have students creating and building in these classrooms, not only in math but in science, social studies. A big focus here at Bridgeport Elementary School is writing. Our hallways are full of writings that they have done.”
Sabinski said the students have become adept at using tools such as iPads for interactive activities. She commended the teachers for their hard work creating lessons that make the most of technology to capture the children’s attention.
Sabinski congratulated the fourth graders, adding they were excited to advance to middle school.
“We are so proud of them at every level. They are ready to move on to their next adventure,” she said.
“I am very honored and very proud to be the principal of this building.”
The kiddos spoke about what they have learned. The teachers said their students demonstrated a “growth mindset” as they advanced through the school year.
Fourth grade teacher Sydney Dunlap had encouraging words for parents as the fourth graders took the step to middle school.
“I want you to know how truly incredible your children have been this year. Their curiosity, kindness and resilience has amazed me every single day. As a first-year teacher I feel so lucky to have started my journey with such a special group, and that’s a reflection of the wonderful job you’ve done as parents,” she said. “Your children should be so proud of themselves. They’ve earned it.”
Sabinski also congratulated the kindergarteners and first graders, adding the little ones are taking a step comparable to the fourth graders’ graduation to middle school.
“These little ones have worked so hard on being role models in the school just like the big kids do,” she said. “I am so proud of how hard they work on their homework at home. That practice is so crucial.”
She said her teachers incorporate technology in lessons for the youngest students.
“We are very proud of them for how responsible they are in using that technology in an appropriate way at such an incredible young age,” she said. “These kiddos are creating – not just writing, not just reading, but creating – activities about what they’re also learning.”
