An OPEN LETTER to … the ADs and Coaches at WPHS & CCHS …

-

Gentlemen:

It may have only been a summer Rec League game, but it felt a little like the real thing when the two basketball teams squared off again in East Wheeling to benefit the flood victims in Valley Grove and Triadelphia. A total of $9,510 was raised – $4,755 for each community – so those folks can continue their recovery efforts after the flash flooding on June 14th claimed nine lives and destroyed the two towns.

Thank you.

Sure, local sports fans hope this means the historic “Park-Central” rivalry has been reborn because there are many of us who recall those legendary matchups inside the Wheeling Civic Center, but if that’s not possible because of established schedules and playoff points, we hope an annual charitable scrimmage can be arranged to benefit our community.

And because these kids want to play and compete against their cross-town friends just like their mothers and fathers – and their grandparents – did “back in the day”.

Sincerely,

Ohio County Strong

  1. Are you kidding me? They don’t play any more? Forget about playoff points, that is a revenue generator for both schools.
