Legacy of a Broadcaster: Pat Clutter Golf Scramble Tees Off for Scholarships

-

Wheeling, WV – August 01, 2025 — The 27th annual Pat Clutter Memorial Golf Scramble will be held Friday, August 1 at Crispin Golf Course at Oglebay Park. The event kicks off with a 1:00 PM shotgun start, welcoming nearly 200 golfers and numerous local businesses in support of scholarships for students pursuing careers in communications.

Media interviews begin at 11:45 AM, with organizers, past scholarship recipients, and supporters available for comment. The event is expected to conclude around 6 p.m.

Held in memory of Pat Clutter, a beloved Ohio Valley educator and broadcaster, the scramble celebrates his legacy of mentorship and passion for media. Pat taught English at Wheeling Park High School and worked at AM 1170 WWVA and WTRF-TV, where he served as news director. He pioneered the school’s radio and television programs before passing away from melanoma in 1997 at age 46.

“This event honors my dad’s legacy by giving back to young people who are passionate about media and storytelling — just like he was,” said Crissy Clutter, event organizer.

The tournament is made possible by the generosity of community members and sponsors across the Ohio Valley. Media coverage is welcome and appreciated.
