WHEELING, WV – One year ago, Oglebay unveiled a bold new chapter with the grand reopening of its iconic lodge and elevated culinary destinations. Today, the resort is celebrating the anniversary of those transformational renovations with a nod to the past, a toast to the future, and a full slate of special offerings designed to delight returning guests and first-time visitors alike.
Oglebay Lodge’s exterior now boasts a striking, refreshed façade accented by a grand illuminated fountain and porte-cochere—creating a dramatic sense of arrival. Inside, guests are welcomed into a newly reimagined lobby space that blends contemporary elegance with the warm, inviting spirit that has defined Oglebay for over a century.
Beyond the architectural transformation, Oglebay’s culinary landscape has also flourished. Over the past year, the Lodge has welcomed:
- Trace Chophouse – A refined steakhouse experience highlighting premium cuts, artful plating, and thoughtful wine pairings.
- Skyline Kitchen & Bar – A nostalgic but elevated dining option with modern comfort foods and sweeping views.
- Sarita’s Coffee & Goods – A cozy café filled with local charm, grab-and-go convenience, and curated retail.
To commemorate the one-year anniversary, Oglebay will offer a lineup of themed specials throughout the month of August:
- Skyline Kitchen & Bar’s chicken pot pie debuts as a signature comfort dish.
- At Sarita’s Coffee & Goods, guests can enjoy peach-infused desserts and beverages—a sweet tribute to Sarita herself, who was affectionately called “Peaches”.
- The legendary Wheeling Feeling cocktail is making its much-anticipated comeback at Hickman Lounge. Originally created at Glassworks, Oglebay’s first licensed bar which opened in 1980, this signature drink combined fruit juices with a medley of brandies. The Wheeling Feeling returns as a flavorful nod to one of Oglebay’s most spirited eras.
- Trace Chophouse will feature a $100 for two prix fixe menu, showcasing signature entrées such as steak, chicken, and trout—perfectly paired with indulgent desserts like mango cheesecake and baklava.
Most importantly, this celebration reflects Oglebay’s renewed commitment to exceptional service. With new service standards in place, every interaction is designed to foster genuine connections and lasting memories.
“This transformation wasn’t just about aesthetics—it was about legacy, revitalization, and building a guest experience that feels as unforgettable as it looks,” said Bob Peckenpaugh, Wheeling Park Commission President & CEO. “Our goal is not just to deliver a great stay, but to create meaningful moments—whether it’s a warm welcome in the lobby, or a memorable meal—that keep our guests coming back year after year.”
These extensive upgrades were made possible, in part, by a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA), funded through the American Rescue Plan and private philanthropy. The investment supports Oglebay’s ongoing mission to enhance tourism infrastructure, revitalize the local economy, and elevate the guest experience for generations to come.
As Oglebay looks toward the future, this anniversary is a reminder of how far it’s come—and how many adventures still await.
