ODOT – Belmont County: Construction Updates

Current and upcoming road closures and restrictions for Belmont County are listed below. Click on each route to see the location at OHGO.com.

I-70 westbound nighttime lane restriction at EXIT 208:  Nighttime work on I-70 westbound at Exit 208 (SR 149) to prepare for the upcoming interchange improvement project. Crews will fill rumble strips and install barrier walls to support traffic during construction. Work will take several weeks, occurring overnight only, with one lane open at all times.

I-70 nighttime concrete repair project: A project to repair a five-mile section of concrete along  I-70 from the Belmont/Guernsey County line to just east of the I-70 rest areas. The contractor will complete this work during nighttime hours. Lane closures will be utilized during construction from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The completion date is October 31, 2025.

State Route 7  slide repair project south of Shadyside: Work is underway to repair a slide just south of Shadyside. One traffic lane is maintained in both directions throughout construction with a 10-foot restriction for northbound traffic and an 11.5-foot width restriction for southbound traffic. The completion date is October 31, 2025.

State Route 7 Martins Ferry Pedestrian Bridge Replacement: A project to replace the overhead pedestrian bridge in Martins Ferry over State Route 7.  A crossover traffic configuration will maintain one traffic lane in both directions during construction with a 10-foot width restriction. Additionally, pedestrian traffic will be closed on the bridge for the duration of the project. The completion date is October 31, 2025.  

Blaine Hill Bridge – U.S. Route 40 closure: U.S. Route 40 is closed at the Blaine Hill Bridge located west of Bridgeport between County Road 10 and County Road 214 for a bridge rehabilitation project. The official detour is U.S. 40 east to I-70 west, I-70 west back to U.S. 40, and reverse. Click here to visit the project webpage for updates.  The road is expected to reopen during the summer of 2026, and the overall project completion date is October 31, 2026. 

I-470 lane closures for WVDOT barrier wall project:  Expect Lane closures on I-470 through from Ohio EXIT 3 (County Road 214) across the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge to EXIT 2 in West Virginia. This project is part of the West Virginia Department of Transportation’s ongoing barrier wall replacement project. WVDOT advises motorists to use I-70 as an alternative route to avoid delays due to this work. The project is expected to be completed by June 2026.
