WFD Holding Annual Remembrance Ceremony on Oct. 29

WHEELING, W.Va. – The public is invited to join the Wheeling Fire Department for its annual Fallen Firefighter Memorial Ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the city’s Fallen Firefighter Memorial. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will take place rain or shine at the memorial’s location at the corner of 14th and Water Streets in downtown Wheeling.

The solemn event commemorates the 34th anniversary of Assistant Chief Robert Foster’s line-of-duty death. The program will include an invocation, a reading of the names of the fallen Wheeling firefighters, and a traditional bell-ringing ceremony.

This year’s observance will also acknowledge the increasing impact of mental health challenges associated with firefighting and highlight the efforts of local clergy who have formed a chaplain group to support firefighters.
