An OPEN LETTER to … CCHS’s Mike Young …

-

Dear Coach Mike Young:

Congratulations, Coach, to you, to your players and coaches, and to the Wheeling Central Catholic Community on your ninth championship as the Maroon Knights head coach and on the high school’s 13th state football title overall since 1979.

Clay-Battelle came to play, and the Cee-Bees had the lead at the end of the first quarter, but you and your young men adapted on the way to a 56-34 victory and the WVSSAC Class A crown. The win completed a 10-2 season, and running back Kade Koroneos’ record-breaking performance (7 touchdowns and 415 yards rushing) will prove legendary.

A football team.
The West Virginia Class A Football Champions

The best part, though, is what those young student-athletes learned along the way. You’ve said it throughout your storied career, win or lose, that the most important part of any season is the growth you witness with the young men on your roster. You’ve told us that lessons are learned during the course of every season – about respect, fortitude, family, adversity, teamwork, and about life with The Lord – and that’s why we know your team returned to Wheeling late last night not only as the champs but also as better people.

Congratulations to all involved!

Sincerely,

Your Hometown Fans
