WELLSBURG, W.Va. – January 21, 2026 – Today, union electrician and local labor leader Dave Cantrell is launching his Independent campaign for the West Virginia House of Delegates in District 3.
Cantrell currently serves as the president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 141 and the Ohio Valley Trades and Labor Assembly. He is a husband and father to two sons, eager to fight for working class families just like his.
“I’m running as an Independent candidate so I can prioritize serving the people of District 3, not party interests,” Cantrell said. “In my view, we have far more in common than the two-party system wants us to believe, and everything I do, I do for working class people like me who know what it’s like to live paycheck to paycheck.”
Cantrell’s top issues include job creation, prioritizing and protecting children, and strengthening infrastructure in the Northern Panhandle. Above all else, Cantrell is eager to be a voice for Independent voters and pro-working class issues.
“West Virginia has never needed pro-working class representation more than we do today,” Cantrell said. “Healthcare is going up, energy rates are going up, and grocery prices have yet to change, but those with all the money keep making more of it. We need leaders from the local level to federal offices who are dedicated to fighting for working families.”
As an Independent candidate, Dave is required to earn the people’s nomination through signature-gathering efforts in District 3 and meeting people where they’re at to get his name on the ballot for the November 3rd General Election.
