An OPEN LETTER to … Fans of Ferris Bueller …

-

Dear Everyone:

It’s that time of year, and while it might cost us an hour under the covers with our eyes closed, freedom from the grips of a pretty nasty winter is upon us all.

It’s been a cold, even frigid, winter, and that January 25th snowfall just wouldn’t melt away for weeks, crippling our freedom to live without the fear of a bone-cracking, life-changing slip and spill to frozen ground. While it is true that millions of Americans suffer from seasonal depression each winter, this deep freeze was nastier than flurries and flakes and temperatures around or barely below freezing and it left most businesses and events empty and silent.

Bueller? Bueller?

But now, it’s time for Daylight Saving Time to return. Granted, it pushes back our morning sunlight by an hour (6:47 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.), but instead of the skies going dark at 6:21 p.m. like they will tonight, we’ll enjoy life in the light until almost 7:30 p.m. tomorrow evening.

And then it’ll be 8 p.m., then 8:30 p.m., and by June 22nd, the sun will not set until a few moments before 9 p.m.

Glorious summer.

So, that’s why it’s time for the Sausage King of Chicago to sing “Twist and Shout”, catch the foul ball, enjoy a jacuzzi, and enjoy our free time once again instead of staring outside at a frozen world that went dark once the Christmas lights were put away.

Because, after all, Ferris did share some wisdom when the classic film was released 40 flippin’ years ago – before the internet and social media and cellphones – that we should still follow today.

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Can you imagine how he’d feel these days?

Sincerely,

Fans of Vitamin D

P.S. Save Ferris!!
