WHEELING, W. Va., Sept. 11, 2026 —Nearly half of all students who took AP exams at the Linsly School earned AP Scholarship recognition.
Among those who took an exam, forty-five percent of students earned this high distinction, including twenty-five from the class of 2026, seven from the class of 2027, and one from the class of 2028, who have earned the AP Scholar designation in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) exams.
In May 2026, Linsly students completed rigorous AP exams following college-level courses with Linsly instructors. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on a student’s performance on AP exams. The AP Program enables high schoolers to earn college credit, master critical thinking skills for future success, and receive recognition from the College Board for outstanding academic achievement.
“We are proud of our students for excelling within our rigorous curriculum,” said Dr. Justin Zimmerman, Linsly’s head of school. “Their success reflects their character and perseverance, matched with our faculty’s dedication to helping them reach their full potential.”
Six Linsly students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students from the Class of 2026 are Sophia Funke, attending Bowdoin College; Ian Sincavich, attending the University of Rochester; Sophie Toma, attending Princeton University; and Jakob Schmidt-Weigand, attending Universitat zu Lubeck. In addition, Joshua Lee, Class of 2028, also earned AP Scholar with Distinction recognition.
Eight Linsly students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. From the class of 2026, Tucker Doty attending Wheeling University; Siddarth Doupaty attending Purdue University; Reese Maroney attending Miami University; Elaina Pusz attending Miami University; Jalen Wong attending the University of California, Santa Cruz; and Julian Fischer, who is currently fulfilling his military commitment in his home country of Austria, received this honor. From the class of 2027, Joseph Nodurft and Nolan Smith were also named AP Scholars with Honor.
Fifteen Linsly students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Examinations with grades of 3 or higher. Students from the class of 2026 receiving this distinction are: Nee Ashitey Boateng, attending Lake Forest College; Milo Boles, attending Ball State University; Sydney Burke, attending Barnard College at Columbia University; Claire Carson, attending Clemson University; and Matteo Lorini Dabiankov, furthering his education at a university in Italy. May Devine, attending West Virginia University; Aubrey Dunken, attending Penn State University; Levi Ekanem, attending West Virginia University; Baylie Hinebaugh, attending Bethany College; Mattia Loreto, attending Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen in the Netherlands; Khoi Phan, attending Furman University; Chenbin Ren, attending Haverford College; Gavin Spadafore, attending The Ohio State University; Evangeline Yendell, attending The University of Pittsburgh; and Bridget Zimmerman, attending the University of Virginia.
Current students receiving this honor from the Class of 2027 are Chase Bacchus, Hunter Burkey, Kameron Hiryok, and Connor Phillips.
Of this year’s award recipients at Linsly, seven were juniors, and one was a sophomore at the time of the AP examinations and will have at least one more year in which to complete college-level work and possibly earn additional recognition from The College Board.
