WHEELING, W.Va. – State Treasurer Larry Pack was in Wheeling on Tuesday where he presented more than $17,000 in unclaimed property funds to the Regional Economic Development (RED) and the Village of Bethlehem in Ohio County.
“Every dollar we return through our unclaimed property program is money that can once again serve the people and communities of West Virginia,” Treasurer Pack said. “We’re pleased to return more than $17,000 to the Village of Bethlehem and Regional Economic Development, and we’ll continue working to make sure unclaimed funds find their way back to their rightful owners.”
The Village of Bethlehem received an unclaimed property check on Tuesday afternoon for $10,262.04. The money came from stale dated checks.
“Anytime that I can set the Village up for an opportunity to receive surplus funds or any low hanging fruit that has not been received by the Village yet, it’s a golden opportunity for us,” Bethlehem Mayor Matthew Saseen said. “When you run on a tight budget, every dollar counts. When you get a check for $10,000, it goes a very long way for a community like us.”
RED received an unclaimed property check for $6,941. The money came from matured or term life ins policies.
“RED is very appreciative to Treasurer Pack and his office for presenting the organization with these unclaimed funds,” RED President and CEO Josh Jefferson said. “Treasurer Pack has been a great partner to RED and the entire Northern Panhandle, and this is a good example of why he and his team encourage all of West Virginia to connect and engage with his office and check the website to make sure unclaimed funds are returned.”
In September, the Treasurer’s Office returned more than $2.4 million to individuals, businesses and organizations across West Virginia.
The State Treasurer’s Office has more than $530 million worth of listings in its database statewide. There are more than 124,000 unclaimed property listings worth more than $20 million in Ohio County.
Since the start of Fiscal Year 2027, which began on July 1, 2026, the Treasurer’s Office has returned nearly $9.4 million to rightful owners.
