The United States now leads the world for the most confirmed cases of COVID-19 coronavirus, and the case count, as of Saturday evening, reached more than 123,000 with more than 2,200 reported deaths. West Virginia, the last state to see a COVID case, now has 113 confirmations, and Ohio has reported more than 1,400 positives and 29 deaths.

Positive COVID-19 tests have been recorded here in the Upper Valley the last few days, too, and the count in Belmont County is now seven with three recovered; Ohio County currently has six residents quarantined following confirmations; Marshall County has reported four active cases; and Wetzel County reported its first Saturday afternoon.

Officials with the federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention have stated the coronavirus pandemic has yet to hit its peak in the United States, and President Trump has utilized the Defense Production Act to order American businesses to produce personal protection equipment and ventilators.

That’s because this bitch is defiant, persistent, and way more stubborn than the furnace-fighting father from “A Christmas Story.”

Where did you come from? And why are you doing this to the world?

Listen, I didn’t know I was inside a bat, OK? But then I saw this chicken and, my friends and I went there. After that, we just kept feeding off whatever we could eat. It’s about survival just like it is with you people now. Thing is, we never stop trying to survive like you people do.

What do you mean? We’re staying home, sheltering in place, keeping six feet away from each other.

No, you’re not. Look.

That’s from yesterday afternoon. So, no, you’re not.

How can we stop you? What is your Kryptonite?

You people are really oblivious, aren’t you? I told you, we feed, and we’re getting fat. What’s that tell you?

So, there’s no chance you’ll just quit?

Perhaps using the term “oblivious” wasn’t proper. I’ll just call you stupid from now on, OK?

That seems sorta harsh, don’t you think?

OK, one more time … we spread when people don’t know they’re sick, but you know that already. Still, you gather for our good and not your own.

So, it’s our fault?

I was inside a bat, man. The rest is on you. You ate me, you’ve breathed me, and you’ve touched me. You want me to go away?

Make me.
