Yesterday, after students were released, Brooke County Schools was informed of a criminal investigation into allegations that a recording device was placed in a locker room at Brooke High School. School security officers and Central Office staff worked with law enforcement and located and removed the devices from the high school. Immediately upon learning of these circumstances, the Superintendent removed the principal from the school and suspended him from employment pending further proceedings. Today, we will be meeting with students, parents, and staff to offer supportive measures while the investigations continue.
The safety, security, and privacy of our students are fundamental responsibilities of our school system. Conduct that compromises those responsibilities will not be tolerated. The school system is cooperating fully with law enforcement and is also conducting its own investigations into the matter. Because this matter involves an active law-enforcement investigation, a pending personnel matter, and potentially the privacy interests of students and employees, the school system cannot provide additional details at this time. We ask that the privacy of our students, staff, and their families be respected.
Brooke County Schools will continue working with law enforcement and taking all appropriate steps to protect our students, our employees, and the school community.
