Behind Linsly’s Banes Hall, walls are rising quickly, signaling the beginning of a transformational chapter in the school’s 211-year history. After years of planning and preparation, construction is underway on a new, state-of-the-art dormitory that will replace Weiss Hall and significantly enhance the boarding experience for students from across the United States and around the world. The new dorm will proudly bear the name Simmons Hall, in recognition of the extraordinary generosity of Trustee David Simmons ’82 and the Simmons Family Foundation. For decades, the Simmons family has supported Linsly in countless ways, and this latest gift represents a landmark moment in the school’s history.
A Cornerstone of “Forward Together”
Simmons Hall is a centerpiece of Forward Together, the most ambitious capital campaign in Linsly’s 211-year history. This multi-year initiative, currently in its leadership phase, aims to transform Linsly’s historic campus while ensuring the school remains at the forefront of 21st -century education. Guided by the school’s Strategic Plan and input from trustees, faculty, staff, and parents, the campaign focuses on bold priorities: upgrading residential life; expanding need-based financial aid and endowed scholarships; supporting faculty excellence; and advancing programming in academics, the arts, and athletics. Campaign Co-Chairs Kermit Cook ’96 and Betsy (Jones) Poggi ’93, alongside Board Chairman Gary Glessner ’85, are leading the charge to make these transformative projects a reality.
Why It Matters Now
| With competition among schools at an all-time high, shifting socio-economic realities in the region, and the demands of preparing students for a rapidly evolving world, Linsly’s mission has never been more important — or more challenging. Forward Together is designed to meet these challenges head-on, ensuring that every graduate is equipped to lead, influence, and make a meaningful difference in their communities and beyond. Trustee and alumnus Rob Sincavich ’75 shared, “In a world that lacks many of the virtues stressed at Linsly — virtues that I believe are vital to success at any level — supporting Forward Together ensures future graduates will thrive at whatever they pursue.” “I am forever grateful for the opportunity to attend Linsly,” commented trustee and alumnus Mike Purpura ’87. “The academic rigor, combined with athletics and character development, prepared me incredibly well for college, law school, and my career. I still benefit every day from my Linsly education.” The doors of Simmons Hall will open soon, but the vision of Forward Together stretches well beyond bricks and mortar. It is a commitment to ensuring that Linsly remains a place where talented students from all backgrounds can learn, lead, and live together.
