Mr. President:

Now that Election Day is past, sir, we here in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia do not need more politics. What we do need is to retain a warrior like U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld so he can continue the battle against a relentless barrage of narcotic trafficking that flows along Interstate 70 and into our communities.

How bad is it? Well, sir, it’s so bad we’ve grown used to it. When we hear about a “bad batch” that causes in a rash of overdoses, we’re no longer shocked. Addicts are overdosing in grocery store parking lots, in gas station restrooms, and in homeless encampments and shelters, and grandparents are raising their dead children’s children.

It’s bad, sir. Really, really bad.

Now, Ihlenfeld is a Democrat, Mr. President, and he resigned in December 2016 after he was informed his termination was coming by your order. We’re asking you not to do that again.

We’re requesting you retain Ihenfeld as the U.S. Attorney in the Mountain State’s Northern District because we believe he protects not only the Wheeling area but all communities within his jurisdiction. Just this past week, sir, Ihlenfled’s office indicted 10 individuals for trafficking cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl, and it’s just one of several impressive criminal roundups he’s guided this year.

Ihlenfeld is a born prosecutor, Mr. President, and we believe his experience and success are more valuable than just another political statement. With all due respect, of course, sir.

We thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

A Collective Community in Mourning
