Superintendent:

The end of yet another academic year is upon us and hundreds of seniors will be graduated from Wheeling Park High School this Sunday afternoon. For some seniors, though, it won’t be the first time to wear the cap and gown and honor cords, and that’s because they tried on the garments earlier this week.

It’s always a terrific idea to celebrate the kids for their successes, but it’s even more important these days to give grade schoolers the gumption to graduate themselves. So, when you have the chance to do both at once?

Senior Walk Through Day – a relatively new tradition in Ohio County Schools – took place this past Wednesday, giving current elementary students a chance to first bump, high five, and applaud the Class of 2024. And hey, if a parade of former Steenrod Cardinals, Woodsdale Tigers, Elm Grove Dragons, or of any of the others gives them more incentive to graduate, too, we say find more reasons to do it more often.

Congratulations on another successful academic and athletic year for Ohio County Schools.

Sincerely,

The Future of Wheeling
