Sports can try, but will they last? The only way to safely play football during these pandemic days could be with a video game.
Can our school buildings really reopen in September even if W.Va. Gov. Jim Justice decides tomorrow to close down bars and indoor dining again? How long will businesses display, “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Mask, No Service” signs and remain in operation?
Now, some will continue claiming the mask mandate to be oppression but others will make the face coverings a social fashion statement. Staying at home, it seems, will remain the best way to remain safe.
And it is all our fault.
Over the past month, the Upper Ohio Valley has witnessed nearly a 100 percent increase in the amount of COVID-19 cases, and it is a number that includes the very young to the pretty darn old. This coronavirus mimics the opioid epidemic as far as recognizing no boundaries when attacking and now most folks know two or three people battling the virus right now.
This morning, the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department announced nine new positive cases, increasing the total in Ohio County to 144 since mid-March. Not too bad for four months except when you recall we had a mere 57 just four weeks ago.
That’s why most of us are already thinking twice. We’re backing away, counting to six, speaking with our heads down and hugging with our mouths turned away. Fist bumps, elbow rubs … most of us, but not all of us, are unselfish folks who will follow the effing guidelines because we’ve been reminded that going back to our normal wasn’t the “new normal” we’ve resisted.
Sincerely,
The Anti-COVID Club
