Dear Family and Friends:

Tough week. Difficult couple of weeks, actually. When someone very special to us passes away, it is not something to get used to any time soon. Scott was much more than his Facebook posts, too, but he did make us giggle a bit with his memes especially when he came real close to crossing that ever-moving-sensitivity line.

He connected us. We know each other because of him. We may not have liked each other prior, but because of him, we now have a some kind of bond. Crazy how those things work just because one man made it happen but now it’s up to us to remain in touch simply because he believed we should know each other.

We know Scott’s three children, Nick, Alex, and Sarah, and we wouldn’t if not for him. We know his beloved Eda, Niki, and Lucy, and that would have never happened if not for him. We witnessed the respect of the Wheeling community as first responders from a plethora of different agencies chaperoned our friend to his final resting place, and we saw the Warwood students, his former neighbors, and motorist along the path stop and pay homage to him.

And we were a part of a mile-long procession honoring Scott … and have you ever been able to claim that before now? We had the chance to sing along with two of his favorite local musicians, Bob Gaudio and Jeff Tappe. And we also learned, yet again, “Mump” proved a hero as an organ donor as his final act on Earth.

We will emulate him without doing it on purpose, and that’s because Scott has already changed the way we look at life, and maybe because he was taken so early, we will learn to appreciate the life we have left even more.

Sincerely,

Folks Who Love You More
