An OPEN LETTER to … State Officials of West Virginia …

Dear Decision Makers:

We all have the same question: “Where is my $12,000 for STAYING in West Virginia?

It’s a legit question, too, and that’s because those payments represent OUR tax dollars. It is OUR money and not yours to give away to people who have not endured the losses of the coal and steel industries, the impacts and deaths involved with the opiate epidemic, or the fact that our secondary roads LITERALLY break our automobiles each and every day.

In West Virginia, $12,000 can buy real residents a new car to get to work, or their real prescribed amount of insulin, or better than frozen, processed food. Broadband access, with the $12,000, would be way more affordable for a family’s school children, and childcare could become a reality, too, so employment is possible.

The offer y’all made, though, made coast-to-coast national news, and that means you caused the residents of the Mountain States to be embarrassed yet again. AGAIN!

So, we would like to offer you people this ultimatum.

  • Revoke the offer immediately.
  • Shush with such nonsense.
  • Do damage control and offer US something.

The state of West Virginia has a retention problem, right? But y’all managed to make us all want to move away. How did that ever make sense to you folks? Our state has 27 border counties, after all, so it really wouldn’t be that difficult for most to pick up and cross a river or navigate a tunnel. West Virginians are a proud, taxpaying people until, of course, we get gut punched by the freakin’ people we pay.

SO. JUST. STOP. IT.

Sincerely,

Homegrown Mountaineers
