Dear Oh, Clever One:
It began ever-so-innocently as a report by veteran journalist D.K. Wright on October 10th involving Wheeling’s annual Christmas Parade.
The Main Street Bank Fantasy In Lights Parade will step off just after 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, despite the major street project going on.
WTRF will be the exclusive broadcast partner of the Main Street Bank Fantasy In Lights Parade and will stream the event on WTRF.com and the 7News Facebook page.
D.K. also reported that Wheeling City Manager Bob Herron and race director Ronnie Green were selected as the parade’s two Grand Marshals. Her follow-up report the next day offered information about parade registrations and both posts on WTRF’s Facebook page attracted hundreds of reactions, comments, and shares.
So, what did you do? You make it a thing, that’s what you did. One day after another, another Christmas parade posts. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Here’s your Christmas parade post, you filthy animals.
- Good morning! The early bird gets a Christmas parade post!
- It’s 11:00 PM do you know where your Christmas parade posts are?
- Why haven’t any of you Etsy moms and or dads made a t-shirt yet that says “I made it through the WTRF Christmas parade posts of 2022”
- Have you guys already placed your $3.00 plastic chairs and blankets on the sidewalk to reserve your spot for the Christmas parade?
Of course, the twist that’s made WTRF’s daily parade posts so popular isn’t the actual parade. Instead, one reason is the questionable condition of the roadways many of the participants will have to walk on. No one can deny that Main and Market streets are rough, to say the least. The other reasons? Those who have followed know the rest.
Are the streets worse than they were last year? No, not really. But we sure are sick and tired of the jaw-rattling ride and you gave us an avenue where we made it something to laugh about … at least until our next terrifying trip anyway.
Bravo, Post Maker. Bravo. You made the joke become the joke.
Sincerely,
We Wait for Moondog
