Hey:
“Help is available” … “There’s always someone willing to talk” … “Life can get better” …
You have heard those statements over and over, and the folks who deliver the messages are not lying to you. Help is available, and people will listen, and that’s why this morning at Heritage Port, they will come together for the annual Out of Darkness Walk.
Many of the participants have lost loved ones because of what they’ve decided, and this morning, with every step they take, they will pray to their friend or family member who’s no longer among us because “Here” just became too much.
Our veterans, or grandparents, moms and dads, our brothers and sisters and uncles and aunts – anyone and everyone struggle sometimes, you see, and we all feel disconnected and, at times, doubt anyone cares. We all feel alone because of loss, rejection, illness, and because we’re different and feel we don’t belong.
And there are times (aren’t there?) when it’s just hard – too hard – and the wrong option seems the easiest choice to make. That’s why there are the hotlines and the groups and today’s Northern Panhandle Out of the Darkness Walk to Fight Suicide, and if you have arrived to the point where you are surrounded by darkness, please consider one more alternative and attend today’s event this morning at Heritage Port.
Because you are worth another chance, and another chance after that, and that’s because, as long as you have breath, you possess the potential to feel and spread joy once again.
Go. Talk. Maybe even smile again. If not today, tomorrow, because no matter how alone you feel, someone loves you and will hold you through this.
Sincerely,
You’re Not Alone. Promise.
