Governor Morrisey:
The Bellaire Toll Bridge is an abandoned bridge. Ya know, like a house stranded by time because the lives lived inside have passed on and there’s no more life left in West Virginia. So, while a descendant lives away, the house rots, nature begins its takeover, and pieces fall before the foundation crumbles and the structure falls in collapse.
Eventually, Governor, it’s government responsibility the remove the mess in the name of public safety, and that’s where the folks in Benwood, W.Va., are with the Bellaire Toll Bridge. It’s not owned by a banker or a demo company or by a scam artist because it’s been left and forgotten and NO ONE is liable for it because there’s no paper trail to prove it.
Don’t believe us? Ask Dave McLaughlin, one of three Marshall County commissioners who’s also the Public Works Director in – you guessed it – Benwood, W.Va. Shoot, he’s been trying to reach you anyway.
Be the hero, Governor. Form an alliance with U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) to secure some federal funding – she was raised just down the road in Glen Dale and she’s running for re-election – and remove the worry about the falling chunks of concrete and the steel debris falling free from the rusty relic that’s far overstayed its welcome.
The Bellaire Toll Bridge is an abandoned bridge, sir, and it’s West Virginia’s responsibility to remove the public hazard from the neighborhood of Benwood, W.Va.
Sincerely,
Don’t Wait Until Someone Dies
