Mr. Councilor:

You attempted to deliver a message this past Tuesday that, you prefaced repeatedly, was not a criticism of the annual Pride Festival. You talked about what you felt was a crossed line during the event, expressed anger that it took away from the message of the festival, and requested the City Manager to better vet “family friendly” festival content when children are present at city-owned venues.

And then you repeated it again. Your issue was NOT with the Pride Festival but with the lyrics sung by a performer dressed in drag.

But that is not what many of your critics heard, now is it? You were scolded for being small-minded and reminded that we have “much bigger problems” that you should care about much more than someone dressed in drag and dancing to a “crude” song with the word “bitch” repeatedly included.

Drugs. Prostitution. Homeless. All very serious issues in Wheeling right now and all mentioned but those who took to social media to offer critiques, but it didn’t seem to matter that, before you addressed the performance in question, you requested a crackdown on drug trafficking. Makes ya wonder about attention span, huh? It’s pretty clear in this video (around the 22-minute mark).

Now, Councilor, since you have explained your concerns and identified yourself as a Christian conservative, our advice to you is to remain diligent and represent your constituents in Ward 2 the way you believe they approve. In other words, let that skin grow a little thicker, and if it is appreciated, then your re-election should not be a problem in 2024.

Sincerely,

It’s All About the Kids
