Administration Members:
First, allow us to say we’ve rooted for the institution’s success since the new president was named at Wheeling University nearly four years ago. We’ve known it as Wheeling College, Wheeling Jesuit College, and as Wheeling Jesuit University, and we were saddened by the reasons for the name change to “Wheeling University” in April 2019.
Unfortunately, ladies and gentlemen, our concerns continue today because of what we have heard from the student body and what has been confirmed by the statement signs they held during their peaceful protest in late September.
Those young women and men protested to demand a better quality of on-campus life. They want stuff to work, healthy housing, your help, and a two-way conversation between the school’s administration and the student population. They want what’s considered “normal,” you see, when it comes to campus “life.”
Since the president told newspaper reporter Shelley Hanson 19 months ago that Wheeling University “is where God intended for me to be,” we’re wondering if The Lord’s calling included anything about answering the students’ prayers for functional facilities any time soon.
Wishing all the best,
The Neighbors
