Denny Magruder, Tony Assaro, Ben Seidler, Connie Cain, Jerry Sklavounakis, Ty Thorngate, and Dave Palmer:

The included photo is of a banner of Undo Sparachane, the founder of the original Undo’s Restaurants, and it’s now hanging in front of that historic eatery in his beloved Benwood, W.Va. because he was a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corp and was awarded a Victory Medal for his heroic service during World War II.

Undo is now one of about 75 individuals honored on the commemorative poll hangers within the tiny municipality, and it’s not because it’s Memorial Day weekend. That’s Benwood being Benwood, one of most patriotic cities in this valley.

Can we do that in Wheeling, too?

And then, once those banners wear thin, we could honor Wheeling’s history as the country’s true “Gateway to the West,” and we could celebrate all of our communities, our schools, our festivals, our sports legends, and our amenities like Oglebay, Independence Hall, Wesbanco Arena, Wheeling Park, Centre Market, the Capitol Theatre, and the Heritage Port.

Let’s select locations, settle on price and how to pay, and let’s celebrate us. All of us.

Sincerely,

Some Friendly City Folks
