Coach:
Take a look at the cover photo. See that “M” on it? You know what it stands for and you understand what it reminds us of thanks to a decision you made 17 years ago.
There were rumors, you denied them, and then we lost our opportunity to win a National Championship because of a ginormous upset to our No. 1 rival … and then you took off to Michigan to be the head coach of the Wolverines. Please know we hold zero animosity against the University of Michigan, but we rooted against you and cheered when you were fired in 2010 after compiling a 15-22 overall record and a 2-7 mark versus archrivals Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan State.
We enjoyed your failure, too – there and everywhere – because you broke our collective heart. You were supposed to be one of us, a tried-and-true West Virginian who’s always discounted as the underdog from a state most don’t know exists. But.
And now, here you are again, and we have a decision to make, now, don’t we?
During your press conference Friday, you apologized, said you should never have left, and you claimed you asked for a lifetime contract. You said all the right things, handled the heckler, and you reminded us of an era of WVU football we thoroughly enjoyed because there was an edge to it like we haven’t seen since.
So, bring us what we want, “Rich Rod”, and our hearts will heal, all will be forgiven, and you will have the chance to become the King of West Virginia. Again.
But fool us twice?
LET’S GO!!
Cue Country Roads
I will admit I was not only skeptical, but totally against rehiring RR…I was against NB as well and voiced it as I was told how lucky we were to get him??? (How’d that work out?)…I rs really hoping for, again, a high profile, well seasoned coach with a high win percentage, etc. And as I told people who though re-electing Trump was a step backwards, “Sometimes you have to go back and ‘fix’ what is wrong before you can move forward.”.That’s kind of like this is…RR was very humble at the news conference…He, in a wise and manly way, apologized and showed remorse and showed himself a man asking forgiveness…I’m all in, at least for now, and hope WV can become significant in my lifetime…Let’s GOOOOO!
I’m still skeptical of how he was given the job so quickly but whatever, he’s the coach now and I hope he does a good job for the sake of the university but mainly for the young men who will be playing on the team he’ll be coaching. And though Neal Brown couldn’t deliver a winning team that WVU wanted he is a man of integrity and the boys on the team had a good role model in him.
