Backyard BBQ Festival Fires Up Memorial Day Weekend

WHEELING, W.Va. – Oglebay Park Resort invites guests to kick off summer at the fifth annual Backyard BBQ Festival, returning Memorial Day Weekend, May 22-24, with award-winning barbecue, live entertainment, family activities, and festive fun across the park.

The Backyard BBQ Festival brings together pitmasters, smoky flavors, craft beverages, and live music for a full weekend celebration. Memorial Day Weekend also marks the opening of Oglebay’s outdoor pool for the season, giving guests even more ways to relax, cool off, and celebrate the start of summer with family and friends.

The weekend ends with a fireworks finale lighting up the sky at dusk on Sunday, May 24, celebrating Memorial Day Weekend and the start of Oglebay’s America 250 summer festivities. Throughout the season, guests can experience patriotic programming, community celebrations, and all-American summer traditions across the park as Oglebay commemorates America’s 250th anniversary with a summer full of connection, celebration, and fun.

“Memorial Day Weekend has long marked the unofficial kickoff to summer at Oglebay,” said Bob Peckenpaugh, Wheeling Park Commission President and CEO. “The Backyard BBQ Festival is one of the many ways we bring people together to celebrate community, connection, and time outdoors with family and friends. As we begin an exciting summer season and look ahead to America 250 celebrations, we’re proud to continue creating memorable experiences that honor tradition while welcoming new generations to Oglebay.”
