Bordas Golf Classic Raises $10,000 for Oglebay Foundation’s Access to the Parks Program

Bordas & Bordas’ Scott Blass presented Oglebay Foundation President and CEO Eriks Janelsins with a $10,000 check representing proceeds from the 2022 Bordas & Bordas Amateur Golf Classic during a formal presentation Tuesday at Oglebay’s Crispin Center.

The $10,000 gift will go towards supporting Access to the Parks scholarships, an Oglebay Foundation program providing low-income Ohio County children and an accompanying adult with free year-round admission to all the activities at Oglebay and Wheeling Park, including related equipment.

Thanks to the firm’s generosity and the event’s success, all children, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances, can enjoy golf at Par 3, miniature golf, pedal boats, kayaking, fishing, swimming, water slide, mountain biking, the aerial challenge course, tennis, ice skating, snowboarding, skiing, visits to the Good Zoo and train, as well as the Museums of Oglebay Institute and the Schrader Environmental Education Center.

Janelsins said partnerships between the Oglebay Foundation and corporate supporters like Bordas & Bordas allow the institution to carry out its philanthropic mission.

“The park is very fortunate to have the ongoing support from Bordas & Bordas. Their firm gives back to the park in so many ways and the commitment to equity and improving quality of life is demonstrated in their support of our Access to the Parks scholarship program. Thank you to Bordas & Bordas for giving the gift of fun at our parks to children in our area.”

Blass commented on the successes of the 2022 tournament.

“The 2022 Bordas & Bordas Amateur Golf Classic was a great success. The tournament had an excellent turn out, and it was great to see a variety of talent throughout the weekend. We have been so proud to raise money for the Access to the Parks program since Bordas & Bordas became the sponsor of the tournament in 2018. It’s great to see the tradition continue another year and we hope everyone can join us for next year’s tournament on June 10 and 11.”

The Oglebay Foundation’s Access to the Parks program supports more than 20,000 visits to Oglebay and Wheeling Park by Ohio County children each year.
