The first day of April may be dedicated to fools, but this year it will mark the beginning of an important period of time for the final two municipalities in Belmont County.

But these days Kathryn Thalman can’t wait to become the next mayor of St. Clairsville, Ohio, a municipality in East Ohio that serves as the county seat of Belmont County. On Jan. 2, Thalman will take the oath of office at the Municipal Building to join her seven council colleagues, and the cookies and coffee will be on her dime and not the city’s.
But that never-more-narrow defeat represents only one of the many reasons why Ballouz has announced his candidacy for the race in Ward 2. Wheeling Island resident Ben Seidler announced his intention to run for the seat several months ago, and the incumbent Imer has not yet filed for re-election.
With several projects under way at this time, the
majority of local IBEW members are working on both sides of the Ohio River, and
as far north as Beaver County, Pa.
“But, right now, we’re just OK with economic
development here in the valley as far as major development is concerned,”
Giffin said. “Of course, we have some working on the road construction, and I’m
seeing some movement in the Bellaire area, too, with a couple of new restaurants popping up.
But, in many ways, Howard dreads most the first significant snowfall in the region, and although the National Weather Service is not forecasting any of the white stuff for the Upper Ohio Valley until the first week of December, it’s on his mind.
It is an investigation never before conducted by a law enforcement agency in the Upper Ohio Valley, and that is one reason why the ongoing process is nearing two weeks in length.
