City of Wheeling to Honor Frontline Workers

-

In February of this year, the COVID-19 pandemic became a reality in the United States. Essential workers continued doing their jobs on the frontlines helping to ensure the health, well-being and safety of our citizens. In honor of the employees’ dedication,  Mayor Glenn Elliott is proclaiming Aug. 3 as Frontline Worker Appreciation Day in the City of Wheeling.

“To combat a global pandemic without compromising access to basic life necessities, societies need certain individuals with critical jobs to continue showing up to work—even in the face of dangerous threats.  These individuals on the frontlines have been putting their own lives at risk for the betterment of their fellow citizens and our community.  They are the unsung heroes of 2020,” he said. “It is very appropriate to honor and express our gratitude to these individuals who continue to make sacrifices for the sake of the residents of Wheeling.”

Elliott read the proclamation honoring healthcare professionals, first responders, warehouse operators, truck drivers, postal workers, delivery workers, construction workers, grocery store clerks, gas attendants and public servants during the July 21 meeting of City Council.

Events and activities are being planned throughout the City on Aug. 3 and will be announced at a later date. Residents should visit the City’s website at www.wheelingwv.gov or the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/WheelingWV/ for the most up-to-date information.
