Protected classes, assistance animals and criminal history issues will be topics covered in an upcoming Fair Housing training for area landlords hosted by the City of Wheeling’s Human Rights Commission (HRC). There is no cost to attend.
Scheduled from 3-5 p.m., Tuesday, March 22 at the Ohio County Public Library auditorium, 52 – 16th Street, Wheeling, the seminar will be conducted by the Fair Housing Law Center out of Washington, Penn. There will be numerous local and national case examples. At the conclusion of the presentation, landlords attending will have the opportunity to ask questions.
“The Wheeling Human Rights Commission is tasked with providing the opportunity for the public to receive education related to the three aspects of protection for human rights – housing, employment and public accommodations. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have provided education for tenants and landlords. Over the years, many of our commissioners have heard questions or comments that landlords have no protections under the ‘Fair Housing Act.’ We hope to rectify some of those comments with this workshop,” said Rev. Ralph W. Dunkin, chair of the HRC.
