Monthly theatrical series presents three adventure stories this Saturday.
Cloak & Dagger On the Air returns to the Top of West Virginia Convention & Visitors Bureau this Saturday, Nov. 16, at 4 p.m. with Cloak & Dagger On the Air Offers…ESCAPE!
Admission is free, although donations are always appreciated.
Doors open at 3:30 p.m., with R.J. Gaudio, Troubadour, performing an opening set of classic pop, folk, and rock favorites. Light refreshments will be available.
Cloak & Dagger On the Air Offers You…ESCAPE! will also be livestreamed via The Ohio Valley Cloak & Dagger Facebook page. Performed in the style of live radio drama, Cloak & Dagger On the Air is currently in its seventh season.
“Life has been pretty tense in our country lately, and I think folks are ready for a break,” Pete Fernbaugh, artistic director and head writer for Cloak & Dagger On the Air, said. “With that in mind, our stories this month celebrate the adventure genre. They’re all bangers and should help our audience forget about real life for two hours.”
The stories are: “Ancient Sorceries” by Algernon Blackwood, in which a man stays overnight in a Welsh village where everyone seems to remember him, but he has no memory of them; “Figure a Dame” by Richard Sale, in which a train ride turns deadly after a wealthy woman’s bodyguard becomes obsessed with a beautiful jewel thief; and “Action!” by C.E. Montague, in which a man attempts to defy the physical impairments from a stroke by scaling a glacier.
Also this month, original character Emily Penelope returns with another flight of fancy in “Operation: Stepmother Dearest” by Pete Fernbaugh.
“Our stories this month were originally performed on the long-running anthology series, Escape,” Fernbaugh said. “In many ways, this series, along with Suspense and Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar, are the exemplars of the golden age of American radio drama. I think our audience is in for a fun afternoon.”
Cloak & Dagger On the Air Offers You…ESCAPE! stars The Wayward Saints: Rob DeSantis, Bethany Fernbaugh, Pete Fernbaugh, Nancy Longo, Karissa Martin, Malachi McClendon, Ralph Parissi, Abby Perry, Terri Perry, and Dave Zanieski, with sound effects by The Holy Foley Molies. Classical musician Roberta Fedoush will provide the accompaniment.
Top of WV CVB is located at 243 Three Springs Drive, Suite 17, in Weirton, W.Va., behind Crazy Mexican, between By the Barrel and Weirton Pet Spa, and across the parking lot from Bistro 303 Prime Cuisine.
“We encourage folks to set aside some extra time to check out the local businesses around us,” Fernbaugh said. “Three Springs Drive is filled with many dining and shopping opportunities. We hope our show can bring some traffic their way.”
