SAN ANTONIO, TX — The Continental Football League (CoFL) today announces the addition of the San Antonio Toros as an official franchise for the league’s inaugural 2026 season.

The Toros’ entry marks a historic return of a name deeply rooted in Texas football heritage — a franchise that once stood among the elite of the original Continental Football League, playing in the unforgettable 1969 championship game against the Indianapolis Capitols. Now, over five decades later, the Toros are back — ready to build a new era of summer professional football in the Lone Star State.

“The San Antonio Toros embody everything the Continental Football League stands for — grit, pride, and regional loyalty,” said Mike Kelly, Commissioner of the CoFL. “Texas football has always been defined by passion and community and bringing the Toros back honors that legacy while building a pathway for the next generation of players and fans.”

The Toros will compete as part of the CoFL’s Southern Division, joining the Austin-area Texas Syndicate, as the CoFL continues to expand its footprint across the region. The Southern Division will feature a lineup of franchises from across the region that share a commitment to developing local talent and providing affordable, high-quality football entertainment for their communities.

The franchise’s leadership group, built around experienced football executives and local business owners, has already begun assembling an Advisory Board to help guide operations, sponsorship, and community engagement in the San Antonio region.

“Our mission is simple — to give San Antonio a team that reflects its spirit,” said Joshua Mair, Managing Partner & Team President of the San Antonio Toros. “We’re not just reviving a name. We’re reviving an attitude — one that says this city deserves professional football that belongs to the people.”

The original San Antonio Toros played in the Continental Football League from 1968 to 1969, capturing the hearts of Texas fans with a relentless style of play. The 1969 team advanced to the league championship, where quarterback Sal Olivas and receiver R.A. Johnson led a stunning comeback in a 44–38 overtime thriller — one of the most dramatic finishes in professional football history.

The new Toros will carry forward that same spirit of toughness and community pride under the CoFL banner — proudly wearing their official color palette of Old Brick Red, Black, and Victory White. Fans can follow the San Antonio Toros on social media at @CoFLToros on both Instagram and X for exclusive updates, player announcements, and behind-the-scenes content leading up to kickoff.
