She offers an intriguing balancing act for all to watch.
Let’s see, she owns two businesses, one in St. Clairsville and one in Wheeling. She’s a mother and is in a committed relationship. And she owns property, consults on venue management, develops new businesses, and she also finds the time to work out and remain very fit.
And that’s why we – her attentive audience – ask ourselves, “How many Courtney Castillo-Rileys are there?”
The answer? Just one, and that’s the Ms. Riley who opened Vue 42 in Centre Market at the end of last year to a very intrigued clientele. The Lux Boutique owner quickly discovered local patrons adore fancy drinks, enjoy the usual cocktails and beers, and that the business model would have worked inside the McLure House Hotel if not for the historic failure of Roxby Development.
Riley entered into a partnership with company officials to co-own bar operations in the street-level space that once housed the Rio Lounge. The bar did open, albeit briefly, before financial woes led to losses in the thousands.
Now, with Vue 42, not only does she own 100 percent of the business but Riley also bought the building, and yes indeed there is something new coming on the second floor at 2247 Market Street, but we mere spectators will just have to wait to see what this entrepreneur has next in store.
Where were you when you came up with the vision for Vue 42?
I came up with the concept of Vue42 after many travels throughout the United States, primarily New York City and the clubs they have there. New York City had the most impact.
What made you believe that “different” would work in Wheeling?
There wasn’t a doubt or hesitation “different” would work. It’s my belief, with a growing city, comes hunger for new and exciting development.
What have you learned about the Vue 42 clientele?
Our clientele is very diversified. We have people of all credentials, which is what I love about the atmosphere of Vue.
Why did you believe the Vue 42 model would have worked inside the McLure Hotel?
When you think of a hotel bar and what that looks like, nines time out of 10 you envisioned a modern, relaxed environment with upbeat music and a hand-crafted drink presented in front of you. That same description defines Vue42 as it would have been for the McLure Hotel.
What do most people not understand about the vibe at Wheeling’s Centre Market?
Centre Market has a lot to offer. I would advise people to check the Centre Market Facebook page to see upcoming events but also pages of the businesses within the district. There’s always something happening from Happy Hour at Vue or sidewalk sales throughout.
